Monday April 27, 2026 Devotional- God Desires Your Presence (GATHER)

From the very beginning, God revealed His heart for relationship. In the garden, He walked with Adam in the cool of the day (Genesis 3:8). This wasn’t a rushed visit or a distant observation—it was intentional, daily fellowship. Adam wasn’t created just to manage the garden; he was created to commune with God. Before there was sin, before there was sacrifice, there was simply presence—unbroken, unhindered connection between Creator and creation.

What makes this so powerful is that Adam didn’t have to strive for God’s attention—he already had it. God initiated the relationship. And even after sin disrupted that closeness, God never abandoned His desire to dwell with His people. The entire biblical story is, in many ways, God restoring what was lost in Eden.

Now consider the context of Exodus 25:8. The children of Israel had just come out of Egyptian bondage. They were in the wilderness—unstable, uncertain, and still learning how to trust God. They didn’t yet have a homeland, a structured government, or a fully developed identity as a nation. Yet in the middle of all that uncertainty, God gave a very specific command: “Build Me a sanctuary.”

It’s striking—God didn’t first tell them to build cities, establish systems, or secure resources. He told them to make a place for His presence. Why? Because His presence was the foundation for everything else they would become. The sanctuary (tabernacle) wasn’t just a religious structure—it was a visible reminder that God was not distant. He chose to dwell among them, not far off from them.

This reveals a consistent truth: God prioritizes proximity over productivity. Before He asks for your work, He desires your worship. Before He calls you into purpose, He calls you into presence.

Just like Israel, we often find ourselves in “wilderness seasons”—busy, uncertain, transitioning, or overwhelmed. In those moments, our instinct is to focus on fixing everything around us. But God’s instruction still stands: Make room for Me.

And just like Adam, God still seeks daily fellowship with you. He hasn’t changed His desire—only the question remains: are we available? In a world full of noise, distractions, and constant demands, God is not competing for fragments of your time. He is inviting you into intentional, undivided moments with Him.

God is not looking for religious routine—He is longing for relational connection. He doesn’t just want a place in your schedule; He wants to be the center of it.

So today, don’t just “fit God in.” Gather with Him. Sit with Him. Make space for Him. Because His presence is not just something you visit—it’s something you’re meant to live in.

Prayer

Father, I thank You that from the very beginning, Your desire has always been to be close to Your people. Thank You for walking with Adam, for dwelling with Israel, and for still pursuing relationship with me today. I am humbled that the God of all creation would desire my presence.

Lord, forgive me for the times I’ve treated You as an afterthought—when I’ve given You rushed prayers, distracted attention, and leftover moments. Forgive me for prioritizing tasks over time with You, and for seeking results more than relationship.

Create in me a hunger for Your presence. Shift my heart so that I desire You more than anything else competing for my attention. Teach me how to slow down, to be still, and to recognize that being with You is not a burden—it is a blessing.

Help me to build a “sanctuary” in my daily life—a consistent space where I meet with You intentionally. Let my mind be focused, my heart be open, and my spirit be sensitive to Your voice. Remove distractions that pull me away from You, and give me discipline to choose You daily.

Lord, restore what was lost in Eden in my own life. Let there be a renewed intimacy between us. Walk with me, speak to me, guide me, and dwell within me. Let Your presence shape my decisions, my attitude, and my purpose.

Today, I choose to make room for You. Not just in a moment, but in my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
