Tuesday March 31, 2026 Devotional-Choosing Growth Over Hype...

There’s something captivating about a balloon. It rises quickly, draws attention instantly, and creates a moment people can’t ignore. But just as quickly as it rises, it drifts… fades… or bursts. Roots don’t do that. Roots take their time. They grow in hidden places. No applause. No spotlight. No recognition. Yet everything that stands strong above ground is sustained by what is developed beneath it.

That’s the tension we all live in—the choice between being seen and being solid. Because being seen is fast, while being solid is formed.

Being seen can happen in a moment—one opportunity, one platform, one viral experience, one season where everything seems to align. But solidity is not microwaved—it is cultivated. It is formed in consistency, in quiet obedience, in unseen faithfulness when nobody is clapping and nobody is calling your name.

Balloons are celebrated for how high they go.Roots are proven by how well they hold. And life has a way of testing both.

When the winds of pressure begin to blow—disappointment, betrayal, delay, uncertainty—what’s in you is revealed. If your life is built on visibility, you’ll find yourself constantly adjusting to the wind, trying to maintain height, trying to keep attention, trying not to fall. But if your life is rooted, you may bend, but you won’t break. You may be shaken, but you won’t be uprooted.

The danger of living to be seen is that you can start performing instead of becoming.

You can learn how to say the right things without actually being transformed. You can master presentation without developing depth. You can gain access to rooms your character isn’t ready to sustain. And eventually, what was lifted too quickly is exposed just as quickly.

But when you commit to being solid, you give God permission to develop you beneath the surface.

In the hidden places, He deals with your motives.In the quiet seasons, He strengthens your faith.In the delays, He builds your endurance.In the obscurity, He anchors your identity.

And here’s the paradox:what is developed in secret is what sustains you in public.

A tree does not struggle to stand when the storm comes if it has spent seasons growing deep. The storm doesn’t create the strength—it reveals it.

So the real question is not, “How high can I go?”It’s, “How deep am I willing to grow?”

Because height without depth is dangerous.Exposure without foundation is unstable.And elevation without preparation is temporary.

At some point, every balloon comes down.But a tree with deep roots keeps standing… keeps growing… keeps bearing fruit… long after the applause has faded.

So choose the hidden work.Choose the slow growth.Choose the deep roots.

Because being seen might get you noticed—but being solid will keep you standing.

Scripture doesn’t compare a faithful life to fireworks or flashes—it compares it to a tree. Why? Because God is more concerned with stability than spectacle.

Even Jesus modeled this. Before public ministry, there were 30 hidden years of preparation. No crowds. No miracles recorded. Just roots.

When you chase hype:

• You become dependent on affirmation

• Your identity rises and falls with opinions

• You feel pressure to maintain an image

But when you pursue growth:

• You develop character over charisma

• You build endurance for hard seasons

• You become anchored, not easily shaken

Popularity can gather a crowd—but it cannot sustain a life.

And here’s the truth most people miss:The crowd that cheers today can disappear tomorrow.(You’ve already preached it—“Hosanna” can turn into “Crucify Him.”)

Are you spending more time:

• crafting an image… or cultivating integrity?

• managing perception… or maturing in private?

• chasing attention… or strengthening your foundation?

Prayer

Father, teach me to value what is unseen over what is celebrated. Help me resist the pull of shallow applause and embrace the slow work of deep growth.Develop in me roots of integrity, patience, and faith that cannot be shaken by pressure or praise.

When I’m tempted to perform, call me back to purpose.When I’m overlooked, remind me that You still see me.When growth feels slow, give me the grace to stay planted.

Make my life like a tree—steady, fruitful, and grounded in You—so that when storms come, I don’t fall apart, I stand firm.
