Monday June 8, 2026: The Battle Within

Scripture: Romans 7:15

Paul's words in Romans 7 are startling because they reveal a struggle that every believer knows but few openly discuss. Here is a man who planted churches, performed miracles, and wrote much of the New Testament, yet he honestly confessed that there were times when his actions did not align with his intentions. He desired to obey God, yet he found himself battling impulses, habits, and desires that pulled him in the opposite direction.

This reveals an important truth: salvation removes the penalty of sin, but it does not immediately remove the presence of the struggle. Every believer experiences a tension between the Spirit and the flesh. The Spirit is drawing us toward obedience, holiness, forgiveness, and faith, while the flesh seeks comfort, selfishness, pride, and immediate gratification.

Many people become discouraged because they assume that spiritual maturity means the absence of struggle. However, maturity is not the absence of conflict; it is learning how to fight the right battles the right way. The fact that you feel conviction when you fall short is evidence that God's Spirit is active within you. Before Christ, many of us sinned without remorse. Now, because God lives in us, there is a holy dissatisfaction whenever we drift from His will.

The enemy often uses our failures to convince us that we are hypocrites, unworthy, or incapable of change. But God uses our struggles to reveal areas that still need His transforming grace. Every battle exposes a place where God wants to strengthen our character, deepen our dependence, and mature our faith.

The danger is not in having the struggle; the danger is pretending it doesn't exist. While Hidden Battles become strongholds, Acknowledged battles become opportunities for God's power to be displayed. What we bring into God's light can be healed. What we hide remains in darkness.

• Today, God is not asking you to be perfect. He is asking you to be honest.

• Stop acting as though everything is fine when there is a war raging within.

• Bring your frustration, weakness, temptation, and failures before the Lord.

• He is not surprised by your struggle, and He has already provided grace for your victory.

  
  

Remember: dead things don't fight. The very fact that there is a battle within you is evidence that God is doing a work in you.

2. Have you been discouraged by the struggle instead of learning from it?

3. What would it look like to bring that struggle honestly before God today?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for loving me even when I struggle. Forgive me for the times I have allowed discouragement to overshadow Your grace. Help me to recognize that my battles are not signs of defeat but opportunities for spiritual growth. Give me courage to be honest about my weaknesses and wisdom to rely on Your strength instead of my own. Where my flesh is weak, let Your Spirit be strong. Where I am tempted to quit, remind me that You are still working in me. Create in me a clean heart, renew a right spirit within me, and help me walk in victory one day at a time. In Jesus' name, Amen.
