Friday July 10, 2026- The Blessing Is in the Instructions

Devotional Thought

Naaman was a man who had everything the world admired. He was powerful, respected, wealthy, and victorious in battle. Yet beneath all of his accomplishments was a problem he could not solve on his own—he had leprosy.

When the prophet Elisha sent word for Naaman to wash seven times in the Jordan River, the instruction seemed far too simple. Naaman expected a grand ceremony, a dramatic prayer, or a miraculous display of power. Instead, God asked him to do something ordinary.

At first, Naaman became angry because God's instructions did not match his expectations. How often are we like Naaman? We pray for breakthrough but ignore God's direction. We ask for healing but resist forgiveness. We desire peace but refuse to surrender our worries. We want God to move in extraordinary ways while overlooking the simple acts of obedience He has already placed before us.

The miracle was never in the Jordan River. The miracle was found in Naaman's obedience.

Only after he humbled himself and followed God's instructions completely did he experience healing. Notice that his cleansing did not come after the first dip or even the sixth. It came after the seventh, when he had fully obeyed.

There are times when God asks us to keep praying, keep trusting, keep serving, or keep forgiving. We may not immediately see results, but every act of faithful obedience brings us one step closer to His purpose. Delayed obedience often delays blessing, but humble obedience positions us to receive God's best.

Whether you are in the springtime of life or enjoying the wisdom that comes with many years, God's instructions remain trustworthy. His Word is not given to restrict us but to guide us into His blessings. The God who directed Naaman is the same God who faithfully directs His children today.

• Am I allowing pride, fear, or impatience to keep me from obeying God completely?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for loving me enough to guide my steps. Forgive me for the times I have questioned Your instructions or delayed my obedience because I did not understand Your ways. Give me a humble and teachable heart that trusts You completely. Help me to obey even when the path seems ordinary or the outcome is unclear. Strengthen my faith to continue following You, knowing that Your plans are always for my good and Your glory. Like Naaman, may I discover that true blessing is found in trusting and obeying You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
