Monday July 13, 2026- Storms Don't Wait for a Good Time

Devotional

Life has a way of changing without warning...

One phone call can alter your entire future. One doctor's report can interrupt years of planning. One unexpected loss can shake everything you believed was secure. The list goes on and on and on- a fire, a falling tree, a sudden death, a termination letter- LIFE HAPPENS WHILE YOU'RE MAKING PLANS...

Storms have never been polite enough to wait until life becomes convenient. They don't ask if you're financially prepared. They don't check your emotional capacity. They don't consider your family schedule or your ministry responsibilities. Storms simply come.

Noah understood this better than anyone.

The Bible tells us Noah was "a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God" (Genesis 6:9). Yet despite his obedience, Noah was chosen to experience one of history's greatest catastrophes. That truth challenges a misunderstanding many believers carry today. Some people assume that if they faithfully serve God, life should become easier. They believe obedience should exempt them from hardship, suffering, disappointment, or pain. Yet Noah's story teaches the exact opposite.

Walking with God doesn't exempt you from storms. Walking with God gives you Someone to hold onto in the storm.

Notice something remarkable in Genesis 7.

Before the rain ever began to fall, God had already prepared a place of safety. Before Noah heard the first clap of thunder, the ark was finished.

Before the floodwaters rose, God had already made provision.

God's grace always prepares before judgment arrives.

What looked like an ordinary boat to everyone else was actually a visible expression of invisible grace.

The world laughed while Noah built. They mocked him because they had never seen rain. They ridiculed his obedience because they couldn't understand God's warning.

But Noah wasn't building based upon what he saw. Noah was building based upon what God said. Faith has always looked unusual to people who refuse to hear God's voice.

Perhaps you're in a season where your life feels uncertain.

Maybe you're carrying burdens that no one else knows about.

Perhaps you're grieving a loss. Maybe your relationship is struggling. Maybe your finances have become overwhelming. Maybe you've been faithfully serving God while secretly wondering why life seems harder instead of easier.

HEAR THIS- Your storm is not evidence that God abandoned you. Your storm may actually become the place where you experience Him most deeply. Throughout Scripture, God's people often discovered His greatest presence during their greatest pressure.

Daniel found God in the lions' den.

The Hebrew boys found Him in the fiery furnace.

Paul experienced His strength while imprisoned.

The disciples discovered Christ's authority while waves crashed against their boat.

Noah experienced God's protection while the entire world was flooding.

God has never promised a life without storms.

He has promised Himself.

Jesus said, "Surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." (Matthew 28:20)

Notice what Jesus did not say.

He didn't promise every prayer would be answered immediately.

He didn't promise every relationship would survive.

He didn't promise every diagnosis would disappear.

He didn't promise every dream would happen according to our timeline.

But He did promise His presence. And His presence changes everything.

• When God is with you, fear loses its authority.

• When God is with you, anxiety doesn't get the final word.

• When God is with you, even the darkest valley becomes a place of hope.

David understood this when he declared, "Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me."

Notice he didn't say he avoided the valley. He walked through it. Storms are temporary. God's presence is eternal. Maybe today your storm hasn't arrived yet. Praise God—but don't become complacent. Maybe you're in the middle of one right now. Hold on. Maybe you've just come through one and you're exhausted. Rest. Whatever season you're in, remember this: The same God who knew the flood was coming also knew how to preserve Noah through it.

Nothing about your life has ever surprised God.

Before your problem appeared, His grace was already available.

Before your tears began falling, His compassion had already been extended.

Before your storm arrived, your Savior had already gone ahead of you.

You are not facing tomorrow alone. God is already there.

One of humanity's greatest dysfunctions is believing we can live independently of God, relying on our own strength, wisdom, and ability to control life's outcomes. Yet storms quickly expose the limits of human effort. Noah could not stop the rain, calm the winds, or control the flood, but he was sustained because he trusted in God's grace rather than his own abilities. In the same way, our fears, anxieties, perfectionism, and attempts to carry burdens on our own reveal our need for God's sustaining grace. His grace not only forgives our failures but also strengthens us in our weakness, reminding us that we do not have to hold ourselves together because He is holding us. As the Lord declared to Paul, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness" (2 Corinthians 12:9).

1. What storm are you currently facing that has tempted you to question God's presence?

2. How has God demonstrated His faithfulness during previous difficult seasons?

3. What fears are you carrying that you need to surrender to the Lord today?

4. In what ways have you been trying to control situations that only God can handle?

5. How does knowing God goes before you change your perspective on tomorrow?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, Thank You for being my refuge and my strength, an ever-present help in times of trouble. Before I ever knew this day would come, You already knew every challenge I would face. Nothing has surprised You, and nothing is beyond Your power.

Lord, I confess that there are times when fear speaks louder than faith. There are moments when I try to carry burdens You never asked me to bear. Forgive me for trusting my own understanding more than Your unfailing promises. Teach me to rest in the assurance that Your plans for me are good, even when I cannot see the outcome.

When the storms of life rage around me, remind me that You are in the boat with me. When the winds of uncertainty blow, anchor my heart in Your Word. When disappointment, grief, sickness, financial pressure, or unexpected hardship threaten to overwhelm me, help me remember that Your grace is greater than every challenge I face.

Thank You that Your grace meets me in my weakness. Thank You that You never leave me nor forsake me. Help me walk by faith and not by sight. Give me courage for today, hope for tomorrow, and peace that surpasses all understanding.

Strengthen my family. Bless my church. Encourage those who are discouraged. Lift those who are weary. Comfort those who are grieving. Draw every wandering heart back to You.

May my life become a testimony that even in the middle of life's fiercest storms, Your faithfulness never fails.

I trust You with today. I trust You with tomorrow. And I trust You with every storm that lies ahead. In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
