Thursday February 19, 2026-The Power of Simple Obedience!

Scripture – Gospel of John 21:6

“He said, ‘Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.’ When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.”

Devotional- The disciples had worked all night. Same boat. Same water. Same nets. Same expertise. Yet—empty. Then Jesus speaks one simple instruction:“Throw your net on the right side.” Nothing dramatic changed externally.The miracle wasn’t in a new location. It wasn’t a new method. It wasn’t even a new net. It was a new obedience.

Sometimes we overcomplicate breakthrough. We assume it requires a dramatic shift, a new strategy, or greater effort. But in this text, the shift was not geographical—it was spiritual. It was not about working harder; it was about listening better.

The disciples did not recognize Jesus at first. Recognition followed obedience. That means clarity often comes after compliance.

How We Overcomplicate Obedience

We complicate obedience when we:

• Analyze instead of act

• Debate instead of do

• Delay instead of decide

• Filter God’s voice through past success

We say:

• “That can’t be God—it’s too simple.”

• “I’ve already tried that.”

• “That’s not how I usually do it.”

  
  

But obedience is rarely complex. It’s usually clear—and uncomfortable.

The enemy wants obedience to feel complicated.God makes obedience clear.

The disciples’ nets were empty not because they lacked skill, but because they lacked instruction. When Jesus spoke, their only responsibility was to respond.

Breakthrough often lives on the other side of uncomplicated obedience.

5G Insight – GROW & GO

This moment reflects two dimensions of the 5G Vision:

GROW – We grow when we choose obedience over ego. Spiritual maturity is not measured by how much we know, but by how quickly we obey.

GO – Obedience activates movement. They had to physically throw the net on the other side. Faith that does not move remains theoretical.

Simple obedience:

• Gathers clarity

• Grows faith

• Glows with testimony

• Goes into action

• And reveals Grace

Grace met them in their emptiness—but obedience positioned them for overflow.

Reflection

What instruction from God feels too small to matter?

What adjustment feels unnecessary because you’ve “always done it this way”?

Is your net empty because you’re relying on memory instead of listening for His voice?

Maybe your miracle is not in a new season.Maybe it’s on the other side of one small shift.

Prayer

Father,Thank You for meeting me in ordinary moments. Thank You that breakthrough does not always require complexity—it requires obedience.Tune my ears this morning. Quiet the noise of my own experience. Silence the pride that says, “I already know how.” Help me discern Your voice above habit, above routine, above fear.

Lord, forgive me for the times I have complicated what You made simple. Forgive me for analyzing what You asked me to act on. Deliver me from delayed obedience. Give me the courage to respond quickly and fully. If You say shift—help me shift.If You say forgive—help me forgive.If You say speak—help me speak.If You say wait—help me wait.

Make my heart sensitive and my spirit flexible. I don’t want to toil all night in my own strength when one word from You can change everything. Let today be marked by simple, immediate obedience. And as I obey, let clarity come. Let provision come. Let recognition come. I trust that the miracle is not in my location—but in my obedience.
