Thursday January 15, 2026 Devotional- Growth Requires Surrender

Devotional– True transformation is rarely comfortable. It requires us to let go of things we've held tightly—our pride, our need to be right, our desire to control outcomes. For Saul, transformation began with blindness, silence, and complete dependence on others. For three days, this powerful, self-sufficient man couldn't see, couldn't eat, and needed help with the most basic tasks. This wasn't punishment; it was preparation. 

Sometimes God has to strip away our self-reliance before He can build something beautiful in its place. Growth happens when pride is broken, when ego is surrendered, when our vision is corrected, and when our identity is healed. It's uncomfortable because it requires us to give God access to places we'd rather keep private. We often want transformation without the process, change without the challenge, growth without the discomfort.

But spiritual maturity doesn't work that way. Just like physical exercise breaks down muscle fibers so they can grow back stronger, spiritual growth often involves God breaking down our old patterns so He can build something better. Maybe you're in a season where God is asking you to surrender something you've been holding onto—a relationship, a dream, a way of thinking, or a habit. It feels scary because surrender always does. But remember, God will not expand your assignment until He deals with your heart. He's not trying to take something away from you; He's trying to prepare you for something greater. 

The areas where you resist God's work are often the areas where you need His transformation most. Growth requires giving God access to the uncomfortable places, trusting that His plans for you are good even when His process feels difficult.
