Tuesday January 20, 2026 Devotional- Lessons from Rock Bottom

Devotional Thought: One of the most beautiful truths about God is that He doesn’t wait for us to clean up our act before He listens to our prayers. Whether you’re sitting in a church pew or lying in a hospital bed, celebrating a victory or drowning in your mistakes, God’s ears are always open.  Many of us carry a quiet, heavy shame about where we are in life, especially when we know our own poor choices played a role, and that shame causes us to project our disappointment onto God, assuming He must be disappointed, distant, or waiting for us to earn our way back into His favor; as a result, we pull back from prayer, worship, and service, telling ourselves we need to clean up first and prove we’ve changed, but this turns grace into something we think must be earned, when the truth is that God’s love has never been based on our performance but on His character—shame tells us we’ve gone too far and should hide, but grace invites us to come closer, reminding us that God is not standing with crossed arms waiting for improvement, but with open arms, having never moved away at all. That’s not how our Heavenly Father works. 

Jonah was literally inside a fish because he ran from God’s calling. He was living in the consequences of his own rebellion. Yet when he cried out from that dark, impossible place, God heard him. Your location—whether a broken marriage, a financial crisis, or an addiction—does not cancel God’s attention. You don’t have to wait until you’re perfect to pray. You don’t have to have all the answers or feel spiritually mature. God hears prayers prayed from places others would call hopeless. He specializes in impossible circumstances and loves to show up in the mess of our lives. Your failure doesn’t block God’s hearing—it often amplifies His compassion.

5G Vision Focus — GATHER

God gathers broken people and broken prayers back into His presence. No situation disqualifies you from calling on Him. When we gather before God, we come as we are—wounded, weary, and sometimes wandering—but He welcomes us with open arms. Gathering is not just about being in the same place; it’s about being united in His grace. God’s heart is to bring His children together, to restore what’s been scattered, and to remind us that we belong. As we gather in worship, in prayer, and in community, He begins to heal our hearts and knit us closer to Himself and to one another.

Prayer: Father, thank You for hearing me even when I’m surrounded by the consequences of my own choices. Remove the shame that keeps me silent and remind me that Your compassion meets me right where I am. When I feel trapped by regret or fear, remind me that You are not far away but right beside me, ready to lift me up. Teach me to bring every burden, every failure, and every hidden thought into Your light, trusting that Your mercy is greater than my mistakes. Give me courage to listen for Your voice in the middle of my mess and strength to follow wherever You lead. Fill my heart with gratitude for Your patience and love that never gives up on me. Help me cry out to You with honesty and trust, knowing You are near, and let my life become a testimony of Your grace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
