Tuesday July 14, 2026- Build Before the Rain Comes!

Grace Meets Man's Dysfunction

One of the greatest mistakes we make is believing that preparation can wait until trouble arrives. Human nature tells us to respond after we see the problem. God calls us to prepare before the problem appears. That is one of the greatest differences between fear and faith.

Fear reacts, while Faith prepares.

When God spoke to Noah, there were no dark clouds gathering overhead. No thunder rolled across the sky. No rivers were overflowing. No neighbors were building boats. There was no visible evidence that judgment was coming. There was only the voice of God and for Noah, the voice of God was enough.

Genesis tells us that God instructed Noah to build an ark because a flood was coming upon the earth. Yet historians and biblical scholars often point out that rain, as Noah would soon experience it, was unlike anything humanity had known. Genesis 2 suggests that the earth had been watered by a mist rising from the ground. Noah was being asked to prepare for something he had never seen.

Imagine how unusual that assignment must have sounded.

Noah could not verify God's instructions through experience.

He could only trust God's character.

That is often where God meets us.

He asks us to obey before we fully understand.

He asks us to move before we see.

He asks us to trust before He explains every detail.

Faith has never been about possessing all the answers.

Faith has always been about trusting the One who does.

Many people are waiting for conditions to become perfect before they obey God.

"I'll pray more when life slows down." "I'll start serving after things settle."

"I'll begin giving once my finances improve." "I'll forgive after they apologize."

"I'll pursue my calling when I'm more confident." But delayed obedience is still disobedience.

God rarely waits for convenient circumstances.

He calls us in inconvenient moments because dependence grows where comfort ends.

Noah spent decades building an ark. Every nail represented obedience.

Every board represented trust. Every day represented another opportunity to quit.

Can you imagine the ridicule?

To the world, Noah looked foolish. To heaven, Noah looked faithful.

There will be seasons when obedience makes you appear unreasonable to people who cannot hear what God has spoken to you.

Not everyone will understand your commitment to prayer.

Not everyone will appreciate your integrity.

Not everyone will celebrate your generosity.

Not everyone will comprehend why you refuse to compromise. That is all right.

You are not called to impress the crowd. You are called to obey God.

The applause of heaven matters more than the approval of people.

Too often we want visible confirmation before we commit ourselves to God's instructions.

Scripture repeatedly teaches the opposite.

• Abraham left his homeland without knowing exactly where he was going.

• Joshua marched around Jericho before the walls fell.

• The priests stepped into the Jordan River before the waters parted.

• Peter stepped out of the boat before discovering the water could hold him.

Faith has always required movement before manifestation.

That principle still applies today.

Healthy relationships are built before major conflict arises.

Strong character is formed before temptation comes.

Consistent prayer develops before crisis strikes.

Deep biblical knowledge is cultivated before difficult decisions must be made.

We cannot expect emergency faith if we have neglected everyday faithfulness.

Athletes do not begin training on championship day.

Firefighters do not learn rescue techniques after the building catches fire.

Doctors do not begin medical school once the patient arrives.

Preparation always precedes performance.

The same is true spiritually.- The storms of life reveal what we have been building all along.

Jesus taught this same lesson in Matthew 7.

He described two builders.

Both built houses.

Both experienced storms. Both encountered rain.

Both faced floods. Both endured fierce winds.

The difference was not the storm. The difference was the foundation.

One had prepared. The other had merely constructed.

One house stood. The other collapsed.

Storms do not create our foundation. Storms expose it.

When financial pressure comes...

When sickness arrives...

When relationships become strained...

When grief enters our homes...

When disappointment breaks our hearts...

Those moments reveal whether our confidence rests in Christ or merely in favorable circumstances.

Noah's ark was built long before the first drop of rain fell.

Your spiritual ark is built through ordinary acts of obedience.

• Every prayer matters.

• Every Bible reading matters.

• Every act of forgiveness matters.

• Every sacrifice matters.

• Every worship service matters.

• Every quiet moment spent listening to God matters.

None of those moments may seem dramatic.

Noah probably had days when driving another peg into the ark felt repetitive and unnoticed.

Yet every small act was preparing him for a future he could not yet imagine.

Never underestimate ordinary obedience.

Small acts of faithfulness become great testimonies over time.

God often accomplishes extraordinary purposes through consistent, ordinary obedience.

Sometimes we become discouraged because we cannot immediately see results.

We pray for weeks and nothing appears to change.

We give faithfully without immediate increase.

We serve quietly without recognition.

We continue obeying while others seem to prosper through compromise.

Remember Noah.

For years, he built without rain. For decades, he trusted without visible proof.

Then one day...The clouds formed. The skies opened. The flood came.

Suddenly everyone understood why Noah had obeyed.

What looked unnecessary became essential.

What appeared foolish became wisdom.

What seemed excessive became salvation.

There are seasons when God is asking you to build something others can't yet appreciate.

• Build your prayer life.

• Build your family.

• Build your character.

• Build your ministry.

• Build your integrity.

• Build your relationship with Christ.

• Build your faith.

Do not wait until life falls apart before seeking the God who can hold it together.

Preparation is one of grace's greatest gifts.

God warned Noah because grace always provides opportunity before judgment.

Likewise, the Lord lovingly prepares His children before many of life's greatest challenges.

He strengthens us through His Word.

He shapes us through prayer.

He matures us through worship.

He refines us through daily obedience.

Grace is not merely God's power to rescue us from storms.

Grace is also God's wisdom that teaches us how to prepare before they arrive.

Today, perhaps God is calling you to begin building again.

Maybe you've postponed what He clearly instructed.

Maybe fear has delayed your obedience.

Maybe discouragement has caused you to stop.

Hear His invitation once more. Pick up the hammer. Trust His voice.

Build before the rain comes.

One day you will thank God that you obeyed before everyone else understood.

Digging Deeper

God's instructions often seem unnecessary until the moment they become indispensable. Noah teaches us that faith is measured not by emotional excitement but by consistent obedience over time. Every act of obedience strengthens our spiritual foundation and prepares us for challenges we cannot yet see.

Ask yourself whether your daily habits are building an ark or merely maintaining appearances. God honors faithfulness long before He reveals the outcome.

Prayer

Father, thank You for loving me enough to prepare me before life's storms arrive. Forgive me for the times I have delayed obedience because I wanted more information, greater comfort, or visible proof. Teach me to trust Your voice above my feelings and Your promises above my circumstances.

Help me to build a life that honors You day after day. Strengthen my commitment to prayer, deepen my love for Your Word, and give me courage to obey even when others do not understand. Guard my heart from discouragement when progress feels slow, and remind me that every act of faithfulness matters in Your kingdom.

Lord, prepare my family, my ministry, my relationships, and my future. Build within me a foundation that cannot be shaken by fear, disappointment, temptation, or suffering. May my life become a testimony that Your grace not only rescues but also prepares those who trust You.

When the storms eventually come, let them reveal Your faithfulness rather than my fear. Let my confidence rest securely in Christ, the solid Rock. Thank You for walking with me every step of the journey and for completing the good work You have begun in me.
