Scripture— Luke 8:46

Devotional Thought
The woman with the issue of blood had suffered for twelve long years. She was physically weak, emotionally drained, financially depleted, and socially isolated. According to Jewish law, her condition made her ceremonially unclean, meaning she lived disconnected from normal relationships, worship, and community life. She carried pain nobody could fully see.
Yet in the middle of the crowd, she made a decision that changed her life forever:she reached for Jesus.
Luke 8:44 says: “Came behind him, and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched.”
What is powerful about this story is that Jesus did not initially stop and touch her—she touched Him. Her healing began when faith moved her to reach beyond her pain, fear, shame, and disappointment.
Sometimes we spend our lives waiting for circumstances to improve, waiting for people to notice us, or waiting for God to move first, while God is inviting us to reach for Him by faith.
Healing often begins with connection.
This woman could have stayed hidden in the crowd. She could have allowed embarrassment, fear, or disappointment to keep her distant. After all, she had already suffered greatly and spent everything she had trying to get better. But desperation pushed her toward Jesus instead of away from Him.
There are moments in life when we cannot remain passive. We must pray. We must seek God. We must worship through the pain. We must press through the crowd of fear, distraction, pride, and discouragement and touch Jesus for ourselves.
One touch changed everything.
Many people today are emotionally exhausted and spiritually empty. They smile publicly while hurting privately. Some are starving for acceptance, forgiveness, encouragement, affection, or genuine connection. Some are physically present in rooms but emotionally disconnected from everyone around them.
We live in a generation filled with information but lacking connection. People know how to argue, debate, and explain, but many have forgotten how to truly care. One of the greatest lessons ministry teaches is this:people often do not need explanation before they experience connection. Before correction, people need compassion. Before instruction, people need understanding. Before solutions, people need love.
Jesus consistently connected with people before confronting their condition. He touched lepers before society accepted them. He spoke gently to the broken before addressing their behavior. He saw people others ignored. Real healing often begins when people feel seen, heard, valued, and loved.
A mother’s touch reflects this beautifully. A loving mother can calm anxiety without speaking a word. She can ease fear through presence alone. Her embrace communicates:You are not alone. You are safe. You are loved.
Likewise, God uses compassionate people to heal wounded hearts. Sometimes ministry is not complicated sermons or polished speeches—it is presence, kindness, listening, patience, and genuine care.
Proverbs 18:24 reminds us:
“There is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.”
Connection carries healing power.
Never underestimate the power of a gentle word, a sincere embrace, a listening ear, or a compassionate act. God often ministers through human connection before He changes outward circumstances.
And while connection with people matters, the greatest healing still comes through connection with Christ. There are wounds only Jesus can heal, burdens only Jesus can lift, and emptiness only Jesus can fill.
Do not wait for perfect conditions. Do not wait until your faith feels strong. Do not wait until everything makes sense.
Reach for Jesus now.
Key Reflection
“Not everybody you meet is hungry for food—many are hungry for love.”
Prayer
Jesus, thank You for being near to the brokenhearted and compassionate toward those who suffer. Thank You that You never ignore pain, overlook tears, or reject those who come to You in faith.
Lord, help me to reach for You even in difficult seasons. When I feel weak, discouraged, ashamed, or emotionally exhausted, give me the courage to press through every obstacle and connect with Your presence. Teach me not to wait passively for change, but to pursue You intentionally through prayer, worship, faith, and surrender.
Heal every wounded place in my heart. Heal the pain caused by rejection, disappointment, loneliness, betrayal, and emotional hurt. Where there is anxiety, bring peace. Where there is emptiness, bring fulfillment. Where there is hopelessness, restore joy.
Father, teach me the importance of connection before explanation. Help me not to become so focused on giving answers that I fail to show compassion. Make me sensitive to the hurting people around me. Help me listen more carefully, love more deeply, and respond with gentleness and grace.
Use my words to encourage.Use my presence to comfort.Use my life to reflect the heart of Christ.
Teach me to create safe spaces where wounded people can experience love, dignity, acceptance, and healing. Let my home, my church, and my relationships become places where people encounter Your compassion.
And Lord, for every person silently carrying emotional burdens today, remind them they are not forgotten. Draw them close to You. Let healing virtue flow into every weary heart that reaches toward You in faith. In Jesus’ name,Amen.
