Devotional Thought
Have you ever considered whether the tongue in your mouth and the tongue in your shoe are pointing in the same direction?
It may sound like an unusual question, but it speaks directly to the issue of ALIGNMENT!
The tongue in your mouth represents what you say you want. It speaks your goals, your prayers, your dreams, and your declarations.
The tongue in your shoe represents the direction your life is actually moving. It reflects your habits, your decisions, your priorities, and your daily actions.
The question is simple: Are they pointing in the same direction?
Many of us declare that we want to grow spiritually, improve our relationships, walk in purpose, or fulfill God's calling on our lives. Yet sometimes our actions are taking us somewhere else entirely.
We say we want peace but continually entertain chaos.
We say we want financial freedom but practice financial irresponsibility.
We say we want a closer walk with God but neglect prayer, worship, and His Word.
As I have reflected over the past few days, especially knowing that I will celebrate my 50th birthday in December, I have come to recognize something about my own journey. To some people, fifty is still young, but it is old enough to evaluate the roads you have traveled. Looking back, I can identify seasons when the tongue in my mouth and the tongue in my shoe were not pointing in the same direction. I spoke one thing while my actions pursued another. I desired one outcome while my habits produced a different result. I prayed for certain blessings while making choices that worked against them.
Perhaps that is why Scripture warns us about being double-minded. A double-minded person is divided within themselves. Their words pull one way while their actions pull another. Their faith says "go," but their fear says "stay." Their vision says "forward," but their habits keep them standing still.
But God desires alignment. He wants our confession, our convictions, and our conduct moving together toward His purpose. When our tongues point in the same direction, progress becomes possible.
Three Ways to Achieve Biblical Alignment
1. Submit Your Desires to God's Will
"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding." — Proverbs 3:5
Alignment begins when we stop asking God to bless our plans and start asking Him to reveal His plans. Before pursuing what we want, we must seek what God wants.
Ask yourself:
Is this desire from God?
Does this goal honor Him?
Am I pursuing His purpose or merely my preference?
When our desires are surrendered to God, our direction becomes clearer.
2. Match Your Daily Habits With Your Declarations
"Faith without works is dead." — James 2:26
What you consistently do will always have more influence on your future than what you occasionally say.
If you say you want a stronger prayer life, make time to pray.
If you say you want a deeper relationship with God, spend time in His Word.
If you say you want to walk in purpose, take steps toward that purpose.
Declarations without discipline create frustration. Alignment occurs when our actions support our words.
3. Allow the Holy Spirit to Correct Your Course
"For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God." — Romans 8:14
Even when we drift, God provides guidance. The Holy Spirit lovingly convicts, redirects, and corrects us when we begin moving away from God's will.
Alignment is not about perfection; it is about responsiveness.
When God reveals a misalignment:
Repent quickly.
Adjust willingly.
Follow obediently.
The Spirit of God is always working to bring our walk into agreement with our talk.
Closing Prayer
Father, help me live a life of alignment. Let my words, my desires, my decisions, and my actions move in the same direction as Your will. Forgive me for the seasons when I have spoken one thing but lived another. As I grow and mature, teach me to walk with integrity and purpose. May the tongue in my mouth and the tongue in my shoe point toward You. In Jesus' name, Amen.

If someone looked only at your daily habits, would they be able to identify the destination your words say you want to reach?
