June 3, 2026 Devotional-Are Your Tongues Pointing in the Same Direction?

Scripture: Galatians 6:9

Devotional Thought= By now, we've explored two important questions:

Part 1: Are your words and actions pointing in the same direction?

Part 2: Are your priorities aligned with God's purpose?

Today, we consider a third question: Can you stay aligned when the results don't come immediately?

One of the most difficult aspects of spiritual growth is remaining faithful when progress feels slow. Most of us don't mind obedience when it produces immediate results. We don't mind praying when answers come quickly. We don't mind giving when blessings appear instantly.

We don't mind serving when appreciation follows. But what happens when you're doing the right things and nothing seems to be changing? What happens when the tongue in your mouth and the tongue in your shoe are finally pointing in the same direction, but the destination still seems far away? This is where many people lose alignment- Not because they're headed in the wrong direction. Not because their priorities are wrong. But because discouragement convinces them to quit before harvest season arrives.

As I reflect on approaching fifty years of life, I've discovered something that age teaches better than youth ever could: Everything God promises doesn't happen overnight.

• Some prayers require patience.

• Some dreams require development.

• Some blessings require preparation.

There have been moments when I thought God was saying no, when in reality He was saying, "Not yet."

The farmer does not plant a seed on Monday and expect a harvest on Tuesday.

He trusts the process.

He waters the ground.

He protects the field.

He waits through seasons he cannot control.

And eventually, what was hidden beneath the surface becomes visible to everyone.

God often works the same way.

While we are looking for visible progress, He is producing invisible growth.

While we are measuring outcomes, He is developing character.

While we are watching the clock, He is preparing us for what is next.

One of the greatest threats to biblical alignment is the spirit of hustling. Hustling teaches us to constantly chase, strive, push, and produce, often without stopping to ask God whether we are moving in the right direction. The world celebrates busyness, but God values obedience. When we become consumed with hustling, we can mistake activity for progress and movement for purpose. We begin saying yes to every opportunity, filling every moment, and measuring our worth by our productivity rather than our relationship with God. The result is that the tongue in our shoe may be moving fast, but not necessarily where God is leading. Isaiah reminds us that "they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength" (Isaiah 40:31). Alignment requires more than effort—it requires discernment. Sometimes the most spiritual thing we can do is slow down long enough to hear God's voice, evaluate our direction, and ensure that our ambitions have not outrun His assignment. A life in alignment is not driven by hustle; it is guided by the Holy Spirit.

Three Ways to Stay Aligned While Waiting

1. Trust God's Process

"To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven." — Ecclesiastes 3:1

God's timing is never accidental.

Every delay has a purpose.

Every season has a lesson.

Every waiting room has an assignment.

Trust that God knows what He is doing, even when you don't understand what He is doing.

2. Keep Doing the Last Thing God Told You

"Be ye steadfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord." — 1 Corinthians 15:58

When God seems silent, don't abandon your assignment.

Keep praying.

Keep serving.

Keep worshiping.

Keep trusting.

Faithfulness in the waiting season often determines readiness for the next season.

3. Celebrate Progress, Not Just Arrival

"Despise not the day of small things." — Zechariah 4:10

Sometimes we become discouraged because we focus only on how far we have left to go.

Take time to acknowledge how far God has already brought you.

You may not be where you want to be.

But thank God you're not where you used to be.

Growth is often gradual before it becomes obvious.

Closing Prayer

Father, help me remain aligned even when the journey feels long. Give me patience when I want to rush ahead. Give me endurance when I grow weary. Help me trust Your timing as much as I trust Your promises. Teach me to remain faithful in every season, knowing that You are working even when I cannot see it. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Reflection Question

Are you tempted to quit because God is not working, or because God is not working according to your timetable?

Final Thought

• The tongue in your mouth may be declaring God's promises.

• The tongue in your shoe may be walking in God's direction.

• But alignment is not complete until your heart learns to trust God's timing.
