Scripture- Genesis 6:8 and Genesis 7:1

Devotional- Before you ever thought about God, He was already thinking about you. Before Noah ever picked up a hammer or laid a single plank, grace had already found him. That is the part of the story we often overlook. We tend to read it as if Noah was the hero who sought God, but Scripture tells a deeper truth: 'Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord' (Genesis 6:8).

From our perspective, it looks like Noah found grace. But from God's perspective, grace found Noah first.

Noah was living in a world full of violence, corruption, and rebellion. Yet God's eyes landed on one willing man—not a perfect man, but a willing one. Noah did not go searching for God in a spotless state. Grace showed up in the middle of a broken world and called him out of it. You did not find God—God found you. Grace met you in the middle of your mess, not after you cleaned yourself up.

Noah did not build the ark to earn grace. He built the ark because grace had already claimed him. His obedience was a response, not a requirement.

Grace is not a reward for the righteous- It is a rescue for the willing. The Bible does not present Noah as a man who earned God’s favor through perfection; rather, he was a man who was willing to walk with God in a generation that had turned away from Him. In a world filled with violence, corruption, and rebellion, Noah responded to God’s call with faith and obedience.

God’s grace found Noah before Noah built the ark, before the flood came, and before any act of obedience was performed. Grace was God’s initiative; Noah’s obedience was his response. Noah was rescued not because he was flawless, but because he was willing to trust God, follow His instructions, and surrender his life to Him. The same is true today—God’s grace is not a trophy for those who have it all together; it is a lifeline extended to those who are willing to believe, obey, and walk with Him.

Grace is rooted in sacrifice. It came through Jesus, who took what we deserved so we could receive what we never could earn. Your past is covered, your present is sustained, and your future is secured because of Christ's finished work.

If grace found you before you were ready, how does that reshape the way you see your past failures and your future with God?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for finding me before I even knew I was lost. Help me to rest in Your grace, to stop striving to earn what You have freely given, and to walk daily in the truth that I am chosen, loved, and redeemed. Give me a willing heart and help my obedience flow from gratitude, not pressure. In Jesus' name, Amen.
