WORK LIKE IT MATTERS, BECAUSE IT DOES

5G CONNECTION: GO — Taking God’s Power Into Everyday Life

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” — Acts 1:8

There is a temptation to believe that our most important work for God happens inside the church. We can easily measure our spiritual significance by how often we attend worship, how many ministries we serve in, how well we know Scripture, or how visible our role may be.

But Acts 1:8 reminds us that God never intended His power to remain inside the church building. The Holy Spirit gives us power so that we can be witnesses wherever we go.

That means your workplace matters.

  • Your classroom matters.
  • Your business matters.
  • Your office matters.
  • Your kitchen matters.
  • Your neighborhood matters.
  • Your conversations matter.
  • Your attitude matters.
  • Your ordinary life matters to God.

The meeting you're dreading matters. The assignment that seems insignificant matters. The customer who is difficult matters. The coworker who gets on your last nerve matters. The responsibilities that nobody recognizes matter.

Why? Because you are there.

And wherever God has placed you, He has given you an opportunity to represent Him.

WORK IS MORE THAN A PAYCHECK

Colossians 3:23 tells us:

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.”

Paul doesn't say, “Whatever you do when you're preaching.”

He doesn't say, “Whatever you do when you're serving at church.”

He says, “Whatever you do.”

That means our faith should influence the way we work.

We don't simply go to work to collect a paycheck. We go to work as people who carry the presence and power of God with us.

Your job may provide your income, but it can also provide your mission field.

The people around you may never attend your church.

They may never hear you preach a sermon.

They may never sit in your Bible study.

But they will watch you.

They will watch how you respond when you're frustrated.

They will watch how you treat people who cannot benefit you.

They will watch how you respond when you're overlooked.

They will watch whether you tell the truth when lying would be easier.

They will watch whether you maintain integrity when nobody is checking.

They will watch how you handle pressure.

They will watch how you recover from failure.

And sometimes, your lifestyle will preach a sermon before your mouth ever opens.

POWER FOR THE ORDINARY

Acts 1:8 says, “You will receive power.”

The Greek word translated power is dunamis, from which we get the word dynamite.

The picture is not of a weak, powerless believer simply trying to survive the day.

God has placed His Spirit within us.

There is power available to us.

Power to remain patient.

Power to forgive.

Power to persevere.

Power to maintain integrity.

Power to love difficult people.

Power to keep going when we are tired.

Power to choose excellence when mediocrity would be easier.

Power to remain faithful when nobody is applauding.

Power to be a witness when circumstances are difficult.

God's power is not reserved for the sanctuary.

God's power travels with you.

It goes into the boardroom.

It goes into the classroom.

It goes into the break room.

It goes into the hospital room.

It goes into the family room.

It goes into the business meeting.

It goes into the difficult conversation.

It goes into the ordinary Tuesday.

The Holy Spirit empowers us for everyday living.

THE 5G VISION AT WORK

Our 5G Vision—GRACE • GATHER • GROW • GLOW • GO—is not simply a church slogan.

It is a way of life.

And one of the greatest places we can live out the 5G Vision is in the places where we spend most of our week.

GRACE — Work From What God Has Given You

Before you can give grace, you have to understand that you are living by grace.

You don't have to prove your worth every day.

You don't have to compete with everyone around you.

You don't have to be perfect.

You don't have to have everything figured out.

You can work from a place of gratitude because God's grace has already given you what you could never earn on your own.

Grace reminds you: “I am blessed to have an opportunity to work, serve, contribute, and make a difference.”

So don't work merely for recognition.

Work from grace.

GATHER — Build Relationships

Jesus never called us to live isolated lives.

Wherever we work, there are people who need encouragement, kindness, friendship, and community.

Be intentional about the relationships God has placed around you.

Gather people.

Encourage people.

Listen to people.

Make room for people.

Sometimes being a witness means simply being the person who notices when someone isn't okay.

Your workplace can become a place where people experience something different because you are there.

GROW — Become Better

God doesn't just want you to occupy a position.

He wants to develop you.

Every challenge can teach you something.

Every difficult coworker can teach you patience.

Every mistake can teach you humility.

Every new responsibility can develop you.

Every season can stretch you.

Don't waste difficult seasons.

Grow through them.

Ask yourself:

What is God developing in me through this season of work?

Maybe He's developing your leadership.

Maybe He's developing your discipline.

Maybe He's developing your communication.

Maybe He's developing your patience.

Maybe He's developing your faith.

Your assignment may be developing the person you are becoming.

GLOW — Let Your Life Reflect Christ

Jesus said in Matthew 5:16:

“Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

This is where your witness becomes visible.

Glow means your faith becomes observable.

People should be able to see something different in the way you live.

Not perfection.

But integrity.

Not arrogance.

But humility.

Not negativity.

But hope.

Not revenge.

But forgiveness.

Not selfishness.

But generosity.

Not complaining.

But gratitude.

Your light doesn't have to be loud to be visible.

Sometimes the brightest witness is simply consistent character.

GO — Take the Gospel Beyond the Building

This is where Acts 1:8 connects directly to our 5G Vision.

Jesus says, “You will be my witnesses.”

Then He gives them a movement:

Jerusalem.Judea.Samaria.The ends of the earth.

In other words:

Go beyond where you are comfortable.

Our 5G Vision calls us to GO.

We don't simply come to church and wait for people to come to us.

We GO.

We take grace with us.

We take hope with us.

We take compassion with us.

We take excellence with us.

We take the love of Christ with us.

We take the power of the Holy Spirit with us.

We GO into the world God has called us to serve.

And sometimes the most important place God is sending you today isn't a pulpit.

It's your workplace.

YOUR WORK IS YOUR WITNESS

Imagine if every believer woke up tomorrow morning and prayed:

“Lord, send me into my workplace as Your witness today.”

Imagine if we stopped seeing our jobs simply as places where we earn money and started seeing them as places where we can demonstrate the character of Christ.

Imagine if our coworkers could say:

“I don't know what it is about them, but there is something different about the way they handle life.”

That's GLOW.

That's GO.

That's the 5G Vision in action.

You don't have to preach a sermon at your desk.

You don't have to carry a Bible into every meeting.

You don't have to quote a Scripture in every conversation.

But you can live the Gospel.

Work with integrity.

Serve with excellence.

Speak with grace.

Lead with humility.

Respond with patience.

Treat people with dignity.

Keep your word.

Admit when you're wrong.

Encourage someone.

Help someone.

Pray for someone.

And when the opportunity comes, tell them where your strength comes from.

EXCELLENCE IS ALSO A WITNESS

There is another important lesson here.

Working as unto the Lord means we should not use spirituality as an excuse for mediocrity.

God deserves our best.

If we are going to represent Christ, we should represent Him well.

That doesn't mean perfection.

It means intentionality.

It means showing up prepared.

It means being dependable.

It means doing what we said we would do.

It means refusing to cut corners simply because nobody is watching.

It means understanding that excellence is not about impressing people; it is about honoring God.

You may never receive an award.

You may never get the promotion.

You may never hear someone say, “Thank you.”

But God sees.

And when you work with integrity, you are declaring:

“Lord, even this belongs to You.”

TODAY'S 5G CHALLENGE

As you enter your day, don't simply ask:

“What do I have to accomplish?”

Ask:

“Who is God calling me to influence?”

Then intentionally practice the 5G Vision:

GRACE: Give someone grace today.

GATHER: Encourage or connect with someone who may feel isolated.

GROW: Learn something from today's challenge.

GLOW: Let your character reflect Christ.

GO: Look for one opportunity to be a tangible witness of God's love.

Remember:

You don't leave your faith at the church door.

You carry it with you.

You don't leave the Holy Spirit in the sanctuary.

He goes with you.

You don't have to wait for a ministry position to make a difference.

Your everyday life is ministry.

Your desk can be ministry.

Your business can be ministry.

Your classroom can be ministry.

Your home can be ministry.

Your relationships can be ministry.

Your work can be worship.

And wherever God sends you today,

GO.

Go with grace.

Go with purpose.

Go with excellence.

Go with compassion.

Go with courage.

Go with the power of the Holy Spirit.

Because you are not simply going to work.

You are going as a witness.

And when you GO, remember the promise:

“You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses…” — Acts 1:8

Reflection Questions

  1. What area of my daily work have I been treating as insignificant that God may actually be using as part of my witness?

  2. Which of the 5Gs—Grace, Gather, Grow, Glow, or Go—do I most need to practice in my workplace or daily responsibilities?

  3. How do I respond when I am under pressure, overlooked, criticized, or unappreciated? What does that response communicate about my faith?

  4. Who has God placed around me that may need encouragement, grace, or hope?

  5. What would change if I viewed my workplace not simply as my place of employment, but as part of my mission field?

QUOTE FOR THE DAY

“Whatever it is, work as unto the Lord and make sure you do it with God's power. Your workplace may be your paycheck, but it can also be your mission field.”

PRAYER

Lord,

Thank You for giving me another day and another opportunity to represent You.

Help me remember that wherever You have placed me, You have also given me an opportunity to be a witness. Give me the strength to work with excellence, integrity, humility, and purpose.

Help me to live out the 5G Vision today.

Let me receive Your GRACE so I can extend grace to others.

Help me GATHER people by building relationships and creating community.

Help me GROW through every challenge, responsibility, and opportunity.

Help me GLOW by allowing the character of Christ to be seen in my words, attitudes, and actions.

And above all, help me GO.

Go beyond my comfort zone.

Go beyond the church building.

Go into my workplace, my neighborhood, my family, my community, and every place You send me.

Fill me with the dunamis power of Your Holy Spirit so that I can be a faithful witness—not only in what I say, but in how I live.

When I am frustrated, give me patience.

When I am overlooked, give me humility.

When I am tired, give me strength.

When I am challenged, give me wisdom.

When I am tempted to compromise, give me integrity.

And when an opportunity comes to point someone toward You, give me the courage to GO.

Let my work become worship.

Let my character become a testimony.

Let my ordinary moments become opportunities for extraordinary witness.

Use me today, Lord.

In the classroom.

In the office.

In the boardroom.

In the break room.

In the home.

In the community.

Wherever I GO, let people encounter something of You through me.

Grace me. Gather me. Grow me. Help me Glow. And send me to GO.

In Jesus' name,

Amen.
