Tuesday January 27, 2026 Devotional- Hidden Purposes in Our Pain
Devotional → Why does God allow certain irritations to stay? Sometimes it's because they serve purposes we cannot see. Like a skilled craftsman who knows exactly which tools to use, God allows specific struggles to remain because they accomplish what comfort never could. Some irritations keep us humble. Success, health, and smooth sailing can make us forget our need for God. But that persistent challenge, that ongoing struggle, that thorn that won't go away—it keeps us on our knees.
It reminds us daily that we are not self-sufficient, that we need divine strength for every step. Other irritations keep us holy. They prevent us from wandering into areas that would ultimately harm us. What we call irritation, God uses as insulation—insulation against arrogance, protection from pride, and a barrier against spiritual complacency. Your current struggle might be frustrating, but consider this: what scares you may be strengthening you. What feels like weakness might be a doorway to God's power. The very thing that makes you feel vulnerable could be developing your spiritual muscles in ways that ease and comfort never could.
God has a way of taking whatever the devil meant to destroy us and using it to deliver us. Your pain isn't random—it's purposeful. Your struggle isn't meaningless—it's meaningful. What you're enduring now is preparing you for what you'll encounter later. Trust that God's purposes are always good, even when His methods are difficult to understand.
When God allows an irritation to remain, it is never because He lacks compassion—it is because He has intention. He sees beyond the moment into the maturity being formed within you. What you perceive as delay, God calls development. What you label as limitation, God uses as leverage. In the hands of a faithful God, pressure produces perseverance, and perseverance shapes purpose. The irritation does not define you—but how you respond to it will refine you. If you surrender the struggle instead of resisting it, you may discover that God is using the very thing you prayed away to draw you closer, deepen your trust, and prepare you for a greater measure of grace.
