Scripture — Exodus 1:17

Devotional Thought

The Hebrew midwives stood in defiance of Pharaoh because they feared God more than they feared man. Jochebed, the mother of Moses, hid her son at the risk of her own life because she believed God had a purpose for him. Their courage became part of God’s plan to preserve a deliverer for Israel.

Sometimes love is not soft and comfortable—it is courageous and sacrificial.

Courageous love protects purpose even when purpose is not fully visible yet. Jochebed did not know Moses would stand before Pharaoh, part the Red Sea, or lead Israel out of bondage. She simply knew that God had entrusted her with a child worth protecting. Real love often acts by faith before it sees results.

Throughout Scripture, courageous love appears again and again:

Rahab courageously hid the spies in Jericho because she believed in the God of Israel. Her faith protected not only her family but connected her to the lineage of Christ (Joshua 2).

Esther risked her life by entering the king’s court uninvited to save her people. Her love for others outweighed her fear, proving that courage often requires personal sacrifice. Mordecai reminded her, “Who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:14).

Jonathan showed courageous love toward David even when it endangered his relationship with his father Saul. Instead of yielding to jealousy, he protected God’s anointed purpose in David’s life (1 Samuel 20).

The friends who carried the paralyzed man to Jesus demonstrated courageous and determined love. When they could not reach Jesus through the crowd, they opened the roof and lowered their friend down because love refuses to give up on people (Mark 2:1–12).

Most of all, Jesus displayed the greatest courageous love ever seen. He willingly endured rejection, suffering, and the cross to save humanity. Romans 5:8 reminds us, “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Love was not merely spoken—it was demonstrated through sacrifice.

Today, the enemy still attacks purpose early. He attacks families, children, identity, purity, faith, and destiny because he knows what God can do through a surrendered life. But courageous believers continue to stand guard in prayer, wisdom, truth, and love.

Mothers, fathers, mentors, pastors, teachers, and spiritual leaders often protect seeds they may never fully see bloom. Every prayer prayed over a child matters. Every godly correction matters. Every sacrifice matters. Heaven sees those acts of courageous love.

How We Can Show Courageous Love Today

• By standing for truth even when culture pressures compromise.

• By praying faithfully for our families even during difficult seasons.

• By protecting children emotionally, spiritually, and physically.

• By encouraging people who are struggling instead of abandoning them.

• By forgiving when bitterness would be easier.

• By speaking life and hope over the next generation.

• By trusting God enough to obey Him despite fear.

Courageous love is not the absence of fear—it is obedience in spite of fear.

Prayer

Lord, give me courage to obey You even when it is difficult. Help me protect what You have entrusted to me. Teach me to love with boldness, faith, and sacrifice. Strengthen every mother, caregiver, mentor, and spiritual leader who is standing in faith for the next generation. Help us guard the purposes You have placed in our families and communities. Let our lives reflect the courageous love of Christ. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
