We live in a world that is constantly competing for our attention. Notifications, deadlines, relationships, financial responsibilities, ministry obligations, and endless distractions all demand a place at the front of the line. Every day we wake up to voices telling us what deserves our first thought, our first energy, and our first commitment. Before our feet even touch the floor, many of us have already checked our phones, reviewed our calendars, or started solving tomorrow's problems. Somewhere in the middle of all that noise, our relationship with God slowly gets pushed further and further down the list.
But Jesus offers a different way of living.
He did not say, "Seek the kingdom of God whenever you find time." He did not say, "Seek the kingdom after you have handled everything else." He said, "Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness."
That one word—first—changes everything.
It is not merely about what time you wake up. It is about what holds first place in your heart. God is not asking for a place among your priorities. He is asking to become the priority from which every other decision flows.
Many believers struggle because they try to fit God into an already crowded schedule. But righteousness was never designed to squeeze into the leftover moments of our lives. God refuses to become our emergency contact while everything else becomes our daily pursuit. He desires to be the center around which everything else revolves.
The beautiful promise of Matthew 6:33 is that when we place God's kingdom first, everything else finds its proper order. Jesus is not promising that life will become easy. He is promising that life becomes aligned. Our anxieties no longer lead us. Our ambitions no longer control us. Our calendars no longer own us. Instead, the Kingdom becomes the compass that directs every area of our lives.
This is exactly what Jesus modeled. Before He preached to crowds, He spent time with His Father. Before He performed miracles, He prayed. Before making major decisions, He withdrew to commune with God. His public power flowed from His private devotion.
That same invitation is extended to us.
This devotion also connects beautifully to the lessons of the previous days.
On Day One, we learned that being poor in spirit means recognizing our dependence upon God. A person who understands their spiritual poverty realizes they cannot successfully organize life apart from God's wisdom. They surrender not only their problems but also their planner.
On Day Two, we discovered that our spiritual appetite is shaped by what we consistently feed. Hunger grows where attention goes. You cannot crave the presence of God if you never intentionally spend time with Him. Spiritual hunger is cultivated through consistent pursuit.
Now Jesus invites us to move from desire to discipline.
You cannot seek first what always comes last.
God never ignores genuine spiritual hunger. He fills empty hearts. He strengthens weary believers. He restores discouraged disciples. He refreshes thirsty souls. He meets those who intentionally pursue Him.
Perhaps putting God first this week means waking up thirty minutes earlier to pray. Maybe it means turning off social media before opening your Bible. It may require saying no to something good so you can say yes to something eternal. Whatever it looks like, remember this: every sacrifice made to pursue God is never truly a loss. Time invested in His presence is always multiplied in His purpose.
Living the 5G Vision
As followers of Christ, we are called to live a 5G life.
Grace
Everything begins with God's grace. Before we seek Him, He has already sought us. Before we loved Him, He loved us. Putting God first is not about earning His favor—it is responding to the grace He has already poured into our lives.
Gather
When God becomes first, gathering with Him becomes a daily priority. We gather in personal prayer, around His Word, with His people in worship, and in fellowship with other believers. Our relationship with God is strengthened through intentional communion.
Glow
A life that consistently puts God first begins to shine differently. Peace replaces panic. Joy overcomes anxiety. Wisdom directs decisions. Others begin to notice that something is different—not because life is perfect, but because Christ is leading.
Grow
Growth never happens accidentally. Every day you choose God's presence over distraction, your faith deepens. Every moment spent in prayer strengthens your trust. Every act of obedience matures your character. Spiritual growth is the fruit of consistent priorities.
Go
When God has first place in your heart, you are prepared to represent Him wherever He sends you. Whether at home, work, school, church, or in your community, you carry His presence because you have spent time in His presence. You cannot effectively go for Christ unless you have first been with Christ.
The Kingdom is not simply something we attend on Sundays. It becomes the way we live every day.
When God is first, everything else eventually finds its rightful place.

Prayer
Gracious Father, thank You for the grace that continually calls me back to You. Forgive me for allowing the demands of life to crowd out the One who gives life. Rearrange my priorities until Your Kingdom becomes my greatest pursuit. Help me to begin each day with You and to center every decision around Your will. Teach me to gather daily in Your presence, to glow with the light of Christ, to grow in faith and obedience, and to go wherever You send me with courage and compassion. May my calendar reflect my convictions, my habits reveal my devotion, and my life testify that You truly are first. In Jesus' name, Amen.
